Crier ("we", "our", or "the app") is a local events aggregator serving Birmingham and Huntsville, Alabama, operated by Code Boys LLC. We are committed to protecting your privacy and to being honest about how Crier works.
Crier collects minimal data to provide our service:
Device Identifier: A pseudonymous identifier used to remember your saved events, preferences, and ticket stubs and — for giveaways — to help enforce one entry per person and detect duplicate entries. It is not an advertising identifier and is not tied to a Crier account or a name unless you voluntarily give us identifying information. On supported devices it may persist when the app is reinstalled so your collection can be restored.
Event Interactions: Which events you view, save, share, or tap through for tickets, plus searches and filters you use, to provide app features, understand demand, and improve our service.
Usage and Technical Analytics: App launches, session and navigation activity, device platform, app version, native build version, update runtime, and update identifier. We use this information in aggregate to understand usage and to diagnose which native binary and over-the-air update were running when a problem occurred.
Email (only if you choose): We do not collect your email for general use of the app. If you choose to enter a ticket giveaway, you provide your email address so we can run the giveaway and contact you if you win. Separately and optionally, you can opt in to receive Crier email updates. (See "Ticket Giveaways & Email Updates" below.)
Photos (optional): If you add a photo to a collectible ticket stub, that photo is uploaded and stored securely on our servers. Photos are entirely optional and are only collected when you choose to add one to your own stub.
Location (only while using the app): When you check in to collect a ticket stub, the app sends your precise coordinates to Crier so the server can calculate your distance from the venue and verify the check-in. Crier stores the verification result and distance with the stub, but does not retain the coordinates for new check-ins. Older check-ins created before September 6, 2026 may still include the coordinates supplied at check-in until you ask us to delete data associated with your device identifier. We never track your location in the background.
Apple Music Library and Listening Signals (only if you connect it): If you choose to connect Apple Music, we read artist names from your saved library and from Apple's heavy-rotation resources to match you with upcoming events in supported markets. We extract and store artist names and alert eligibility, not songs, albums, playlists, play counts, listening timestamps, or a copy of your raw playback history. You can disconnect at any time.
Push Notification Token (only if you allow notifications): If you enable notifications, we store your device's push token so we can send you event alerts, such as when artists you like have upcoming shows.
Business contact details (only if you submit a listing request): The app's "List your venue or shows" link opens a web form for venue owners, staff, promoters, and anyone suggesting a place. If you choose to fill it out, we collect what you type — the venue or business name and address, a link to where its events are posted, and your name, email, and (optionally) phone number. We use it only to review the request and reach out about listing on Crier. It is business contact information, kept in our own database, never sold, and never added to a marketing list. Ask us at hello@crier.app to delete it and we will.
We never sell your personal information. Nothing that identifies you — your email, your device ID, or your individual activity — is ever sold or shared with anyone for their own marketing.
Crier helps venues understand interest in their events, and offering these insights is part of how Crier sustains itself. We provide venues with aggregate analytics — for example, how many devices opened an event, opened and saved the same event, or tapped through to a ticket seller, plus overall demand trends across the Crier audience. Spotlight delivery reports deduplicated devices reached and carousel taps; we do not present raw carousel-render counts as people. These reports do not include device identifiers or identify individual users. (One narrow exception, with notice: if you win a giveaway, your name is shared with that venue's box office so you can claim your prize — venues never receive the list of who entered.)
When you enter a ticket giveaway in the app, we collect the email address you provide and your pseudonymous device identifier, and we record your confirmation that you are 18 or older and an Alabama resident. We use the device identifier to help enforce our one-entry-per-person rule and detect duplicate or fraudulent entries. On supported devices, that identifier may persist when the app is reinstalled. No purchase, payment, rating, review, follow, or share is ever required to enter.
We use your entry email and device identifier only to run the giveaway: to confirm eligibility, limit entries, conduct the random drawing, and — if you win — to notify you privately by email (and, where available, an in-app notification) and arrange for you to claim your tickets. We do not announce winners publicly, and we will not use your name or image for advertising without your separate, voluntary consent. If you win, we share with the venue providing the tickets only what its box office needs to release your prize — typically your name, so it can be matched to your photo ID at pickup. We never give the venue the list of people who entered.
Email updates are separate and optional. Entering a giveaway does not subscribe you to marketing or newsletter email. We will send you Crier email updates only if you separately turn on the opt-in, which is off by default and is never required to enter or win. You can unsubscribe at any time using the one-click link in any update email; we'll stop within ten (10) business days, and unsubscribing is free. Every update email identifies Crier honestly and includes our mailing address: Code Boys LLC, 1305 31st Street North, Birmingham, AL 35234.
Your saved events, preferences, any ticket-stub photos, and any giveaway entry information are stored securely on our servers using your pseudonymous device ID and (for giveaways) your email. We do not sell or share information that identifies you. We do provide venues with aggregate, anonymized analytics about engagement with their events (see "Aggregate Analytics for Venues"), which never identifies you individually. A photo you add to a stub is only viewable by others if you choose to share that stub's link.
Crier uses the following third-party services:
Crier displays event information from venues in supported markets. When you tap an event link, you may be directed to the venue's website, which has its own privacy policy. If you share a ticket stub to a social app (like Instagram), the image is sent to that app at your request and is governed by that app's privacy policy; Crier receives no personal data back from Meta. If you win a giveaway, the venue providing the tickets receives only the limited information needed to release your prize at the box office.
We retain core interaction records, including launches, event-detail activity, and filters, for longitudinal aggregate analytics unless you ask us to delete data associated with your device identifier. High-volume feed-scroll and session-close telemetry is normally removed after 90 days, and featured-delivery records are normally removed after one year. We keep giveaway entry information (your email and entry record) only as long as needed to run the giveaway and for ordinary records. You can clear saved events in the app and can ask us to delete data you've provided or data associated with your device identifier (including a giveaway entry or stub photo) by contacting us at the email below.
Crier is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. Ticket giveaways are open only to entrants who are 18 or older.
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy in the app.
